Thursday – Last day at Site

July 2nd, 2010

We had our last day at site today which is always difficult, saying goodbye to the kids and the men who were working there too.

Jon and I got a tour today of a place called All Saints which is a place for people with aids and other long term illnesses. It was rather sad to see the condition the place is in compared to what they say it used to be like. We got to meet a woman named moxie who greeted us with a hallelujah and lots of energy and was skin and bones when we got to hug her. Mark and Linda went to see this place yesterday.

Last night pastor bazil and his chuch came to worship and it was a good night. He gave his testimony along with another man and their girls and womens groups sang. Their voices werebeautiful.

Previous to this we had our ‘God sightings’ and Matthew was able to give his testimony too. It was quite good. Today at vbs Rachel shared her story with the kids. Again, it is great to see the growth and maturity in these kids!

Tomorrow is our free day at the straw market and the beach and then we will be home.
see you soon.

Wednesday – Day 4

July 1st, 2010

Day 3 at the site is over with one more to go. We were told that this
is generally a tough day mentally and physically however one student
came back from site And said that this was her best day yet. We had a
lot of time playing with the kids today. We made crosses of beads
this afternoon that kept the girls and the boys occupied for well over
an hour and we left them wanting more.

VBS was focused on salvation and many were receptive to it.

Again there was some construction work for a few Jack hammering and
going for sand for the plaster mix.

John S. was able to share his testimony today which was good to
hear.

All in All another good day.

I’m looking forward to worship tonight as pastor baz and people from
his church are coming to lead us, this is the church we have been
working with/at this week and some of ‘our’ kids are planning to
attend too.

Until tomorrow, take care and keep us in your prayers.

Tuesday – Day 3

June 30th, 2010

Hi there
Another work day is done and we are half way through our work project.

Today was almost the same as yesterday, with more time devoted to
informal play with the kids and lighter on the construction.

When we got to the site the some kids were waiting for us and called
various ones of us by name. Connections and bonds are already being
made.

Construction was demolishing the last section of the wall and mixing
cement by hand/shovel out inthe parking area.

Our kids are amazing how they are really working together as a
team, encouraging each other and just Plain working hard in the heat!
Today no one was permitted to say ” hot” under threat of a serious
flogging, so I’ll just say it was a bit warm today.

We’ve had more testimonies last night and today from kler htoo and tah
soe that were both interesting and amazing.

Tonight we go to the planatarium which is delightfully air conditioned.

Hope all is going equally well with you all too.

Pray pray pray we can’t wait to tell you all that is going on.

Monday day 2

June 29th, 2010

hi all

Day 2 is nearing completion and I wanted to let you all know we had a good day except that I am having connection issues and so am sending from Jons itouch.

We got to the site, and some of us walked around the neighborhood to invite the kids to come.  I was amazed at the number of churches, about 2-3 per block.  We learned about “ish” today,ie we start about 10 ish,did crafts on a makeshift table outside using a piece of plywood on the ground as a table.   While all this was going on several men of the church were using sledgehammers to take down a wall on order to build it back up so it got rather loud at times.

In the afternoon we got to take down another section of wall, clean up the concrete on the ground, play with the kids who did not go home and watch as the men of the church rebuit the first section with concrete blocks.

Then back to camp for another swim.

Highlights of the day a cockroach big enough to ride, a huge rat, siting and seriously now hearing Jeremy give his testimony during VBS to all the kids

Worship will be starting soon and a breeze is starting to blow again, thankfully!  I do not think I have ever been this “glowing” in my life

Again keep the prayers coming!!
